Split Testing - How To Discuss

Split Testing

A way to test if one is better than the other. For example, you can separate two ads with the same text but different images to see which image performs better.

Split testing is the same as AB testing, or receiving feedback from users about whether they prefer option A over option B.

Split testing occurs when you test different versions (or changes) of a web page to see which is better. Effectiveness is usually measured by click-through rate or ROI. Common elements that are tested split are headers, images, text, layout, and design.

Synonymous with A/B testing, split testing is done to see which version of a particular header, page, or other page element works best to convert more readers.

A controlled test that compares two or more websites to measure the impact of another variable on conversions. Once the pages have been viewed long enough for site visitors to collect a reasonable amount of performance data, a winner may be declared.

Why split your website or landing page?

Split testing, also known as A/B testing or multivariate testing, involves comparing different versions of a web page or landing page to increase conversions.

Using the control page (original page) and the variant, testers can analyze which version of the page converts better. Typical page elements that testers encounter during split testing include:

  • great title
  • To copy
  • content depth
  • call to action
  • Search box position
  • Image or video options
